The Yard

Jasper, owner of hull # 33, the Viajador,  rebuilding the steering wheel

The Newporter Shipyard was designed for those who have questions about the Newporter yacht. We have found that a need is "out there" for information to help those whose Newporter is calling for some repair. We have found posts on several blogs and forums (whatever they are; this is neither) requesting answers to their maintenance and repair questions.

"Newporter 40 Together" is one blog/forum that has many pictures of Newporters in various stages of repair. The owners (or as one has said: "care givers") are seeking advice and understanding. They need to know something on how the boat was built, they are looking for measurements to use to aid in the production of new parts, they are wondering if they are able to do the work themselves, and there must be other needs. The answers can come from many sources, and you could be one of the sources. We intend to be a source of help. Many "answers" reside here now and more will appear. If you don't find an answer to your question, just ask us and we'll do what we can to get you the answer.

Your Yard Superintendent was one of those who built the Newporters in the two shipyards and one boatshop on the Maurice River in New Jersey where this design was built on the east coast. So, hopefully, my experiences, along with the drawings and photos I have collected, will be useful to the end that many of these fine boats will be sailing through the years.
